i know nothing about buttons, but there are some really knowledgable people on here that will be able to help you.
They are the best at identifying stuff !!
 

I'm not very sure how big a half dollar is, but its pretty big. Therefore I'm pretty sure its a Dandy button which dates to about 1780-90. The shank is consistant with these types of buttons, however in all the thousands I have seen I have never come across a raised triangle on the face (Does it look like it was added later?). If it is a Dandy is a unusual type.
Dandy's are cica 30mm-40mm

Most likely British made, maybe Birmingham.
 

Crusader... the US Half Dollar is right at/about 30 mm.

All I can say is - it's a huge flat button.

I doubt it's military. but, I don't know.

30mm is right on for a Dandy button. I'll stick with that :)
