I found this yesterday with my Cartridge I inquired about. I think it is from the 1940’s, but not sure. I was asking if anyone knows what the purpose of the two holes in the front side is for. There is no makers mark. It is a two piece button. Thanks for your interest.
I have a feeling that your two-piece brass button is older then you think it is Alan.
I just searched through my pre-1900 button finds for a similar example, but without success.
I've found similar buttons to yours on old homestead sites, the detail on the back of yours makes me think it's more likely c1880 in date.
Also, if you look closely on the 'front' of your button, there's a machine made pattern.
Dave, thank you for using your resources to try and pinpoint such a button. I did also find a plated Rodgers spoon Lotus pattern made in 1895. On a more personal note to you. I also dug up 8 old license plates 6 of which were from Ontario 1930-1935. They were pretty rusty, but not yet cheese. I should probably go get them. I forgot that I left them on the ground. I also found a Henry Dennery Silver butter knife from between 1810-1820. The property was on an 1915 USGS map of the area. the knife was made in NY. Close enough to Ontario for those folks to have brought it with them to Florida. Thanks for your interest in this Button. I thought you might appreciate the tie in to Ontario.
