button help please

I found this button near a pewter button but not sure of the age of it or what style these are called any help would be great, thanks.

its Army but im not sure of the age. i found a few of those at the WW2 Army air base i been hunting...aa

Looking at your pic, it almost looks like a cufflink or a collar button. Can we get a clearer pic? It looks like it has a "shaft" on it, then a bulbous type shape on the back end. Doesn't look like a button to be sewn on. Could be wrong. Noodle

No, they weren't sewn on— hence the name "tack button." Here's a link showing the button's construction:
