without actually knowing about the backmark info i'd guess 1880's.cool button!

I guess they were in business from 1848 until 1945, but the question is when did they make this button?

It appears to match a back mark used from 1850 through 1865. (or 1850-1860's anyway)

Very nice find NH. I have the Tice book and will dig it out. Where did you find the image of the buttons? I have been searching the web, but found nothing. Great job my friend.

Glad to help. I just googled; Boston police button Evans 1850 and there were a few items listed (two on WorthPoint which the image wasn't there though).
