I agree: it's a golf-related sporting or blazer button. Shown below is a similar button with sharper detail. The plant/flower is a thistle, a symbol of Scotland, where golf originated. The marks on the border may just be gibberish added to give the button an antique look; a lot of blazer buttons have borders with Latin or, very often, pseudo-Latin mottoes.
