What kind of button is this and how old. It is just a little smaller than a quarter. I thought Tombac but I don't really know. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It is known as a brass "1-piece" button. Made in the late 1700s though early-1800s, for use on fancy civilian coats and jackets.

WOW! Thanks TCG. I just checked and it is brass. Further observation shows it has a mold seam on the back side and the eye is brass, set in brass. I know next to nothing about these buttons but your post has led me to do more research. What I find concurs with what you posted. I just have a hard time believing I actually found a object that old!

Beautiful button! Keep searching that site hard. Flat buttons are a good sign of more to come.
