Found this at Fred Fletcher park in Raleigh on Sunday.

It appears to be silver clad lead.

I have know idea what the civil war buttons might have looked like and claim to be no expert.

I do know there was an orphanage and a civil war encampment at this location.

Could someone help identify it, i`ve written down the letters and numbers on the first pictures background

I dont think it's CW or a button... I dunno, maybe a civilian button.

The back would indicate a more modern piece with the number markings on it... from the (molding?) process.

I agree that it looks plated... are those hash marks on the top a design or damage do you think?

look like damage marks to me and it took me quite some time to get it to shine like that.

I guess it could be a big-ole' knarley sweater button or something! I just don't know...

I hope someone smarter than me (everyone else here) can help... Good luck!

I will also post it on what is it if i don`t get a reply.
