Was out swinging for a spell today. One spot was a christian school, rather old looking, no idea how old, but old looking.
Anyway found this interesting button, not that big on buttons, but this is probably the nicest looking one thus far. Any ideas ? it was found east coast Canada.
(hope the picture works, never done it before)

Hey Rick, how's the East Coast doing?

It's a variation of the Canadian Coat of Arms, I believe.

Sometimes the lion is above the crown.

I stand to be corrected however.

Rick, I find those out here in Winterpeg. Me thinks it's a British general service button. I could be wrong but always assume since most of the things I find are British, Canadian, and American. 100 years old or so?
Maybe you should get into buttons. Nova Scotia must be loaded with old stuff! WTG!
Dave.

It's a fashion button (Pattern: 80110 - Crest w/Lion & Unicorn) made by the Waterbury Button Company. Modern. There is no meaning attached to it's design.

It depends on the back mark. I looked at my pile and they were made in Birmingham by a few different makers. I also have a few that are from the same period that are blank.
Dave.
P.S. My buttons are at least a hundred years old.

Well... I'm assuming there was/is no backmark because why would anyone not include any facts that might help identify it? :dontknow:

Birmingham huh? Interesting... I wonder if they share patterns? May we see yours in a pic too? I might have learned something today... cool!

Thanks Jim,
Modern junk :(, Oh well, better luck next time.

Likely BC. Hi, east coast, doin' all right, great weather for the long weekend, going to get one more water hunt in soon, before the need of waders. Fall comming fast.

Dave. Thank you too. Well this place was very close to CFB greenwood. I will get myself some education on buttons over the winter.

PS, there is nothing on the back

I can't dig everything out at this moment but so far I have a "Harrison & Smith" and "Firmin & Sons Ld" and blank.
I'll keep looking.
Dave.

I've been googling... I found a Birmingham one too... dang! I guess Rick will have to consider all options, figure the age, and make a "best guess". Some of those British made go back to late 1800s.

Two more from Birmingham: "Sydney Griffith" and "Buttons Ltd. B'Ham"
I am having fun with this. Only a few more containers to go. Also have the cuff ones too.
Dave.
