Button Type and Age?

I wonder how old these buttons and what significant they may have? What about that cufflink, how old do you think it may be?

It sort of looks like this button was made from a penny, when I dug it I thought of American Native style. It had a supper thick patina before it somehow ended up in my tumbler:
