Superior WI, maybe?

Thanks lairmo--that's entirely possible and in fact, probable! There's also a Superior , Arizona I think, but I like your idea best.

Haha, I’m so used to seeing “superior” as a quality description on the back that I couldn’t switch to thinking that it was referring to a place. :tongue3:
Good answer Lairmo!

Awww... "begging" always gets to me. Okay, here ya go. Unfortunately for us button-diggers & collectors, CUFF-SIZE buttons whose backmarks says nothing but SCOVILL MF'G Co * were manufactured from about the 1870s into the mid-1900s.

Also.. "most" (but not nearly all) buttons whose lettering is written in "plain block" letters (instead of Serifed, or Script, etc.) letters are from no earlier than the very-late 1800s.

You're welcome. :)

How did you know I was going to say "Thanks" just because that is what I almost always say! And you beat me to the draw on another note--I was just getting ready to ask if anyone could tell the date by the backmark. You're two steps ahead of me on all counts! Thanks. (OOps-I did it again!
