Button?

I have never dug an iron button that was brass gilted. Any ideas what this is? Or is it in fact a button? Looks like three pheasants on it. I sat it next to a silver flat button to represent the size. Thanks, Shane

It's the same size as a quarter. The back is just rusted iron.

ha ha, not sure, I guess it does look sort of like a man lying down

S, It looks more like decorative piece than a button. I'm thinking something along the lines as the finial on a small cast iron bell, or either the finial on a letter opener. They look more like 2 quail (especially with the head plume) instead of 3 pheasants, but I'm not looking at it in person. I think if you 'electrocute' it, you might find some point of attachment or at least not. Interesting Breezie

No clue but definitely cool. It's kind of similar to how overall buttons look when dug but too large for that...

Its a mid-late 19th C sports/hunts button (with steel back), with a group of game birds like partridge.
