I have never dug an iron button that was brass gilted. Any ideas what this is? Or is it in fact a button? Looks like three pheasants on it. I sat it next to a silver flat button to represent the size. Thanks, Shane

Is that a man laying under the bird?

IMG_0528.webpIMG_0527.webpIt's the same size as a quarter. The back is just rusted iron.

S, It looks more like decorative piece than a button. I'm thinking something along the lines as the finial on a small cast iron bell, or either the finial on a letter opener. They look more like 2 quail (especially with the head plume) instead of 3 pheasants, but I'm not looking at it in person. I think if you 'electrocute' it, you might find some point of attachment or at least not. Interesting :) Breezie

No clue but definitely cool. It's kind of similar to how overall buttons look when dug but too large for that...

Its a mid-late 19th C sports/hunts button (with steel back), with a group of game birds like partridge.
