Cache Marker?

What do you think. I'm open to all suggestions! The stone marker is on the end of a long peninsula with swamp on 3 sides. At one time, long ago, there may have been enough water to access the river which is about 3/4 of a mile away. I haven't done any digging yet. What do you think.?

There wouldn't be a hill at the other end of the peninsula would there? It would probably be a small hill or one with a slight and not sharp incline. If there is I would try looking about half way up the hill and then on the top or crest of the hill for another marker.

I wouldn't think this would be marking a cache at the spot of the stone but it could be leading you to one. The B in the CBC appears to be more of a 3 with some additional lines and the Cs are different in their shapes.

You might try looking at the carvings in reverse and compare some of there shapes to the terrain around the stone.

I hate to burst your Bubble, But I Highly Doubt it has anything to do with a cache. It would make no sense to Mark a Cache Site with such an Obvious marker. If you were going to bury a Treasure would you put "MTBH" "My Treasure Buried Here" on a Marker ? :lol

from the first pic it looks like an old railroad marker, is it possible there is an old RR bed close? Maybe a corner marker for property. The CBC is intriguing also the T and whatever else is there on the other side.

I would say there Is a Posability of Coins Lost while putting the Marker there.?or someone resting nearby. ALSO I should Mention. While Fleeing From the Law, or Just someone Thinking of a Good Place To Hide something, This Marker would Make a Great Landmark, to come back to. so, Even tho it's intended purpose, including the Lettering is Most Definately NOT Cache Related, Dosn't mean it may have been Used for that Purpose Later.

Thanks all! I have to look at all those posibilities I guess. Just the fact of where it's located is awesome in itself. Took some hacking to get back to it. The whole area is kind of hard to detect in because of the undergrowth. When it gets a little warmer I plan on cleaning out a few areas and going from there. May need a chainsaw in places. Oh Yeah. I thought I mentioned this before but I'll say it again. This marker is at the very end of a very wooded peninsula of land surrounded on 3 sides by swampy land. So, you would have to come down 300 yards from the nearest road through heavy underbrush to get to it. I missed it the first time I was there because it looks like a tree stump from a distance of about 20 feet.

Could this possibly be a headstone for a grave. I have seen many old private burial grounds with headstones, in the middle of the woods, (maybe it wasn't in the middle of the woods at that time). Some folks couldn't afford to buy them and made their own with a stone chisel and a large rock. I have seen some with just intials but usually had a date. Could be worn off from weather. Just a thought.

If you have GPS coordinates, you can obtain an aerial photograph and post it here to possibly provide more clues? Perhaps using that new NASA program that was posted here last week...

I suggest cleaning it and see if there are other markings on it. I have seen old graves close to rivers, but I don't recall seeing any with just initials. Interesting.

I would be more interested in the top of the "marker". Is the etching in the top pointing towards water or land? Does it look as if it was a tie off for boats or could it be a direction marker?

I really haven't looked at it too hard. Maybe I can trek on back into the snowcovered woods and take a few better pictures. Maybe in a better light I may see something I missed. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. 200 years ago it might have been in the middle of somewhere but I just haven't figured it out yet.
