Calling all Button heads! Any info on this Button?

Found this past weekend at a permission dating back to the mid 1800s.
When i first dug it i thought it was a gear or possible piece of electronics because of the shiny gold.
After cleaning i found it to be a button.
Any ideas of its age and what it might be called?

I have no clue on age but that is a dang fine looking button!

LOL i am sure it was a pretty cool button in its day. Its kinda krusty now but the gold leaf has held up pretty good. I did not know if it was a modern throw away button or something i should hold on too. Looks like its older and a keeper.
