Hi there. You seem to have a Japanese 10 Yen coin. The years for that design are 1951 to 1989, I believe. I found this image on Google for an example.

Thanks but it looks like symbols under the 10 are different

Okay, so these characters on the back are the year. They change for each year just as a penny does. This year in particular is 1952 and I've found a more accurate Google image for you. Hope this helps.

it is actually pretty interesting....this coin reading left to right says...Showa (that is the Emperors era name)...2-10-7 (the 27th year of Hirohito's reign)....and the last symbol means "year"....this translates into a date of "1952"
