A tighter date range (without reading date on the coin) is determined by the assayers names and term of service:
Assayers: FM= Francesco Arance y Cobos & Mariano Rodriquez 1789-1803.
Don.....

Wow nice find. That’s pretty quick for the ID too. Congrats to both.

It's 1807...last two digits visible.
Nice snag !!!!

If the coin was dated 1807, the assayer's initials would have been TH.
But these are clearly FM.
Assuming the date ended in '7', that would give it a date of 1797.
The FM letters only appear on 1/2R MXC coins from 1789 to 1801.
Don.......

Don, you are correct :icon_thumleft:
I stand corrected, Assuming it ended in 7...it clearly is present, so 1797.
I'll stick with cobs or Musketballs...Cheers

Trez,
In my book you are one of the best ID-ers of coins (especially cobs:notworthy: ).
Glad to have shared many years and continue to share with you the TN experience.
Don....
