Can somebody explain the Fisher F-series Fe3O4 meter to me?

I've had the F5 since August and so far, this meter is basically just decoration. I know what it does, but what can you actually do with the information you get from it? Any special considerations for detecting based on how many bars it shows?

If I'm not mistaken, it should affect your ground balance.

But regardless of the presence of that meter, you can still set ground balance with a separate set of controls.
