006.webp007.webpMy grandad fished this out of the Potomac river in southern Md while oyster tonging many years ago.It is about 4 3/4 long in its entirety ,3 2/8 wide and 1 1/8 thick.What makes it so interesting to me, is that the fly and the key hole plate are iron.I was hoping someone could tell me what century it could be from.

Looks like an 1800's style lock to me. I love locks and finding them. I am no expert though. Just judging by the others I have seen on here I will guess 1800's. Someone I am sure will see this and give you a better Idea. Neat Lock and Happy Hunting!! :occasion14:

Here's a great site with lots of antique padlocks. Your lock or one similar is probably under the LEVER PADLOCKS section.

This particular style of iron framed lock we see here, with a drop dust cover, can certainly date before the 1860's, and into the 1840's-1850's.
