Cane Tip?

This was found on a site that has only produced Early Large Cents. Nothing else. Is this a cane tip? There are two nail holes in it, and retains the smallest piece of gold gilt. About two inces long, and both ends are open.

I don't think it's a shaft/thill tip as they were of heavier gauge brass and didn't have a seam.
Whatever this piece is, it was designed for light duty.

I'm guessing it's a piece from a garden tool similar to this. Is that green paint I can see on it? :icon_scratch:
