Canister shot? Iron ball

Hello this was the first of the year my fravite park here in wa state was a army fort during the time of the civil war at first I thought it was a musket ball but its cast iron

I would say it is a canister shot. Great find! There certainly should be more, so keep looking!

You would have to measure and weigh it, then compare those numbers to these shot tables

How do you know it is cast iron, and not steel?? Looks like a steel ball bearing to me, too small for cannister.

In my earlier post I misspoke. I meant to type Case-shot ball instead of canister shot. The item pictured is certainly the correct-looking size for a Case-shot round.

Too small for cannister, and too large for case shot. Much Union case shot was lead not iron, there would be no southern case where the OP hunts.

Mind showing a single reference to your claim that "any golf balls ever made had an Iron or Steel core"..?

Ditto. I find references to wood, feather, gutta-percha and wound rubber but no metal core golf balls.
