A friend of mine found this over the weekend. It was under a cedar tree in his front yard. I don't know how deep it was. It was found in North Central Oklahoma just west of Stillwater. Is it a small cannon ball or maybe a grape shot? Should I try to clean it? If so how should I go about that? If you need any more info about it let me know and I will answer you as best I can. The hotwheels in the pic is my first one. I dug it this afternoon.

Pretty cool! Do you have a way to weigh it with reasonable accuracy?

I would say don't clean it. Grape shot isn't that rare, but cleaning antiques and old stuff tends to lower their value. That's why people bathe less when they get near 100 years old...

I would at least put it on electrolysis for a few weeks...then, bake it at 118 degrees for 12 hrs...air cool...
they clear coat it...NO HIGH GLOSS

Thanks for the replies. It is about 2 1/2" across. I don't know if this helps anything. As far as the weight goes maybe I can take it to the post office and ask them to weigh it for me.

At the Battle of the Alamo grapeshot was anything that would fit into the barrel of the cannon....of course they were pretty much sealed off and couldn't get more cannon shot......that Hotwheels would have made a nasty wound. Nice Find!!

Now THAT's a NICE find! I would like to add one of those to my collection....I'd make a paperweight outta it.

Thanks for all of the replies. Sorry it took so long to get back with the weight but I have been super busy this week between work, school, and 4 kids :). I took it to the post office this morning and it weighed 2 pounds and 7.08 oz. Thanks for all your help.
