Cannon River, Minnesota

Does anyone know if there are any laws that forbid metal detecting in the Cannon River (between Welch, Minnesota and Cannon Falls, Minnesota)? I was thinking next summer it would be fun to tube down the river with my metal detector and search. Has anyone done this?

Definitely wondered about this as well. I just figured the river would be unbelievably trashy

I have not done it, but I have kayaked the stretch from Cannon Falls to Miesville many times. There is a spot, reachable by car, on the south side, about a mile upstream of Miesville Ravine that has been a popular swimming hole, with rope swing, for years. The current is probably pretty strong there, but I'd bet there are some very nice pockets down there that are loaded with rings and coins.
