So my buddy was doing some yard work and unearthed these. One pic is of all of the ones found so far. He asked me to sweep the yard and try to find more. I don’t have measurements and weights yet as I won’t have my hands on them til tomorrow. One pic is the cleanest one next to a softball for reference. 5F711E6B-4078-424D-B366-6ADDF90E3452.webpC43C9A61-5134-4520-ADF5-CA9C70A17AC5.webp

Yes! That is a 6 pound cannon ball. Are you around any civil war sites? If so I’d hit that area hard with a detector.

Well yes , but not the way most people think. I’m in far west Texas. We did have some civil war action, but very limited. However we have a military base here established in 1849-present.

Awesome! Looks like you have an ammo dump on your hands!

Definitely search the area well. That’s an awesome find. I live on a battle field and I can’t wait to find some cannon balls!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Just curious as to how you can tell they are not mill balls without weight and diameters?

I agree they do look alot alike. Hope they are and there goes the yard lol

Be sure to weigh and measure them to make sure. The cleaned one you posted with the softball looks out of round, which COULD be an indication of a mill ball. I hope you did find a mess of 6-pdrs.

I agree, could be mill balls or anything else. But there are no old factories or industrial sites any where near. But this neighborhood sits on what used to be the Ft.Bliss artillery range. So I’m really hoping the are cannonballs! I’ll post an update when I get the measurements . Thanks for the input guys

Nice finds! Measure their diameter with a vernier and weigh each ball, then compare with standard size cannon balls, Good Luck on your research! :occasion14:

Dang, that's super cool. Love the history. What a fortunate find. Thanks for sharing!

I gotta say, thats pretty cool. Congratulations
