Canvas fountain pen sign

So for a while in my town this guy had this sign for sale. I went and looked at it when he wanted $300 for it. He is renovating part of this building tore away some old dry wall and found this hanging behind it. Today he called and we settled on $125 for it. It has some issues (tears, stains, pieces missing) but it was cool and I wanted it. It's canvas and looks as though someone had stencils and hand painted it. He took it to a local art guy and he said 30's or 40's. What do you guys think??
