I've dug up a few 45.90s from the same era and they were same looking just a little bigger than the 45.70s. Sure hard with the head stamp, but the good guys here can do wonders with those measurements.

Thanks for your responces . I cleaned the headstamp a little . Towards the top there are two numbers "?"7

I see an S at four o-clock - an A at seven o-clock - and a 9 at eleven o-clock

My bet is for 45-70, since a 45-90 has a cartridge length of 2.4 inches, noticeably more than 2.25. The correct length for a 45-70 is 2.105 inches, but cartridges do stretch as they are fired and re-loaded (most modern reloaders simply trim the case to the correct length) and in the "good old days" this problem often resulted in a spent case being stuck in the chamber.

By any chance to you have a micrometer? It would help to have the exact dimensions or as close to exact as you can get.
