my first time on t net. my first trip of the year to the 1881 Chinese camp. my understanding is in Nevada at this time Chinese money was legal currency to use when paying chines worker, and opium was sold to Chinese and anyone else. first find larger of the two coins i found in the first five minutes and was the third hit i dug wow should i stop now and be happy no way, ten minutes later one more coin. the coins show as scrap metal or zinc but will hit consistent every pass alot of the metal in this camp hits inconsistent. this camp is littered with cans (heavily soldered) , nails, and about 20 tons of mixed metals! and pottery shards i wanted to find a opium bottle, but i found the two opium tins with the Chinese stamps on them the old powder kegs (not shown) are marked CPW on top and where reused to make everything from buckets to wood stoves. the kegs are about 10 inches wide and 16 inches tall and are everywhere. when this camp was alive everything was reused. as i look up at the view i think i hear some voices of the past talking but i just cant understand them. P.S. can't figure out how to get the photos smaller. Sorry!

sounds like a very cool place to hunt , good luck :icon_thumright:

The CPW 25 lb. black powder cans you were seeing all over were from the "California Powder Works". CPW was incorporated in 1861 and started producing powder in 1864 - 1914 in Santa Cruz Ca. Screw in lead stoppers for the smaller powder cans also were marked C.P.W. - S. C. & C.P.W. - S. F. Nice Finds!

Nice finds, much better than I have done at any ghost town I have hit in Nevada

Welcome to T-Net, always nice to get new members! I luv those wide open towns, nothing beats hunting ghost towns out in the Western Deserts.
