I 'm thinking ithe well digger found the stash . ... as in her husband buried $18,000 during the civil war -- upon their land telling no one exactly where he did it (including his wife) and was later on killed during the war ... and the widow is trying to0 "claim the funds"- as money her husband buried - most likely the "farm" was foreclosed on for "back taxes" owned as many were after the war...thus the well digger was digging upon her former or current property .

hummm----- fort valley , Miss the location ? --there is a "HOUSTON" * A DUAL COUNTY SEAT / WITH CHICKASAW COUNTY , MISS --- SO THERE MIGHT BE A DEFUNCT "GHOST" TOWN OF FORT VALLEY THERE --IT WAS SAID THAT THE AREA WAS LARGELY COTTON GROWERS AT THE TIME OF THE CIVIL WAR AND THAT THE LOCAL ECONOMY CRASHED POST WAR..
