In W PA the land that is now my wooded hunting area was originally used by early settlers for farming, then often bought out by mining operations for coal or coke, then finally drilled and routed with miles of cast iron pipes for the PA oil rush 75 years ago. So dealing with long runs of shallow buried pipes is a common occurrence.
This is not really a "What is this", but more of a how could this happen so dramatically that the tube was shredded into perfect petals?
