Today was always going to be a long shot because this short lived Celtic Site 1st C BC - 1st C AD had very few finds. Just a few Fibula & 1 Celtic Bronze Coin. I just hoped another coin might show but when we got there, the conditions were nearly unworkable. Not deep ploughed but it had been deep raked, so very choppy. Almost pointless conditions for the Cortes but we had travelled some way so started the grid.
We gridded 3/4s of the site when the heavy wind & rain drove us off to lunch & to re-group. 2 hours 15 minutes.
After lunch we tried for 45 minutes on a new field which had good condition but was a complete blank, other than a Wet Stone. Hard to date as they used them as far back as the Bronze Age.

Tiny frag of 1st C AD Fibula & a more complete one. (Hod Hill type)
17th-18th C Leather Decor (Bent)
17th C Button

We need to come up with a better plan for next week.

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

looks like a good site with some awesome historic goodies to be found

It gets a little discouraging when the rains hit and the finds are sparse, but it just grounds a person to realize that it's not always going to be a cake walk.

The wet stone is an interesting eyeball find liking the wedge shape of it.

What's the widget on the left hand side of the photo that has forks?

Some type of modern toy part.

Looking at the fibulae i wonder if you ever found a complete of this type?
