I picked up 2 $50 bags of cents Thursday. Nothing great in bag 1 but I did find 11 40's and 14 50's including a nice red 58-D to upgrade my album. I also found several Canadian cents and 1 German 2 Euro.

Where do you get the bags of pennys???? All I ever get is boxes of pennys (25 dollars) I am addicted to penny roll searching I do a box a day while im at work.......My oldest so far out of 12 boxes is a 1918.....
I want to see an Indians head...lol...

Re: Cent bag #1

When I go to the bank I specifically ask if they have any bags of cents or nickels out of the counting machine. This time they had 2 bags of cents but told me they didn't have enough nickels on hand to let me have the bag. At another bank I ask for the bag and they would rather sell me boxes because they don't want to chance giving me a shorted bag. It just depends on the bank and the teller you talk to.

2nd bag didn't have as many Wheaties but did have 3 from the 30's, 9 from the 40's, and 6 from the 50's. This bag had a nice red 57-D to upgrade the album.

I like the bags, larger variety of foreign coins, less garbage to deal with, and quicker as no rolls to open. Although I am usually short a few pennies, once in awhile you also come out ahead when other denominations get put in the wrong bag such as quarters so I think it evens out (at least for penny bags).

Around me only some banks will sell the bags of pennies from the machine, others say they can't or won't. Just depends on the bank rules and if they roll their own coin.

Note: IF you can find a bank in the right location, bags are definitely the way to go. Unlike boxes which could be from anywhere, bags are from a specific location and if that is better than average location, you will do well. Conversely, if its a worse than average location you will do worse.

Congratulations that is a decent count for 2 bags of pennies. Slightly above my average here for 2 bags.

I prefer bags to boxes also GMan00001.

Thanks Postalrevnant. How many wheat cents do you average a bag? I wasn't sure if what I found was good or bad.

I have only been average about 8 per $25 worth of pennies with 1 of those 8 being a pre-1941 (first wheat peny book). So a $50 bag typically has about 16.

Have yet to be skunked and have yet to get more than 30 in a bag (and the 30 was in a $25 bag).

Basically almost the model of consistency, much like nickels have been for bags.

Last year I was doing mainly boxes and had a few in the upper 40's, at least one in the 50's and my best box was 69 wheat pennies. I was averaging about 12 per box. Not sure if there are that many more pulled or just the change in my source that is lowering my numbers.
