Two weeks ago, I went back to a 1900's demo home-site that has yeilded some wonderful recoveries in the past.
Along the road about 5-feet apart, were two IH Cents that I thought nothing about until I cleaned them up. One of them "appears" to have been altered to the size of a Dime (how ingeneous back in the day LOL). . . and about 20-feet away, was a sweet, 1894-O Barber Quarter! That made my day for sure.

During my last hunt, I found something that had been on my "wish-list" ever since I started detecting.
Having grown up in the Chicago area, I've always wanted to find a "nice" Century of Progress artifact. . . I couldn't have been more happy to see this come out of the ground.
However, I found this on private property near where I live, and the owner of the property will have first right of refusal when he gets back from vacation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed LOL.

Thanks for looking :)

Wow, I'd have been happy with the IHC's and the Barber, but the so-called dollar is spectacular. Hibler and Kappen priced this at $30 in 1963 and described this as "Rare". Spectacular find!

that shrunken down IH is very cool, never seen that before
nice barber too!!

Great finds ! Did the "altered" Indian Head cent get smacked down on the obverse - it looks sunken a bit in your pic (depressed )
and correspondingly on the reverse , the letters in the center look flattened - which could account for the reduced diameter ?

WHOA I SEE SOMEONE GOT VERY LUCKY. MAN THAT CHICAGO TOKEN IS A NEAT FIND. CONGRATS.

Awesome day right there. Congrats.

Those are some very nice digs. Would love to find all 4 of them myself. Congrats on pulling one of your dream targets. :occasion14:

Hello watercolor. Very nice finds all. The coins are in great shape and that token is huge and an outstanding find. Thanks for the post. C9

wow.all of your finds are just great, but I really love that medal from the Chicago world's fair. That really came out in super shape. All in all a super hunt ,I envy you some.

Super Sweet Token in great shape - Hope you get to keep it...BillT.

The altered IHC is a superb find. Barber quarters are nice but the Indian is the belle of the ball. The Century of progress is a real winner too. Bravo!

Those IH's are in Awesome shape and a barber any day is too Sweet!! That Century of Progress is really cool, also in outstanding shape.

That altered IH is cool and reminds me of an early wheatie I found a while back and didn't think twice about it then but now makes sense. Gonna look for it now

Thank you for all your kind comments everyone. . . I don't have hunts like this too often LOL

It appears that this IH was altered (shaped) in two ways. . . the outer edge was compressed, which would account for the deformed "donut" appearance on the obverse and the flattened appearance of the "ONE CENT" on the reverse. The thickness of this IH is about the same as a dime. . . which would make it ideal for a slot or vending machine back in the day.
