"Fossilized/Agatized" Miocene coral head from a quarry site along a creek in Hillsburlu Co. FL You can see chunks hit out of it, surfaces of that are patinated. This may not have been a suitable piece, there is much finer inner material in some heads, but neat to see the coral "head" and with ancient "work" on it.
The proper term for this material is Chaledony Pseudomorph After Coral.
Agate is Chalcedony. Cryptocrystalline Silica. Agate, Carnelian, Jasper, Chert, Flint.

The replacement of coral structure with silica is often amazing in detail
This is close magnification of one polyp in a point found in the Green Swamp, Polk Co, FL
