Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
After using the Sea Hunters for only a few hunts we have decided to change them as our beaches here in the UK are just to trashy to use them. No way we could have known this but we are wasting 90% of our time digging rusty nails. It has been suggested in my other post that the MINELAB EXCALIBUR II is the way to go, we didn't buy these to start with as we didn't even know if we would like the hobby. Does everyone agree that the Excal will eliminate the metal on our beaches and give us a better chance of enjoying the hobby and getting more out of it. If anyone has any other ideas on MDs please say so, thanks,,Paul.

Are they in order of what you feel is the best Terry.

CTX 3030
Excalibur
in that order...

Please don't tempt me I wouldn't even know how to use the CTX.

I love my Excal, but would NEVER use it in an iron infested area, sorry. The machine is just too slow to recover. That's where my CTX shines.

In that case, go with the Excalibur, you'll be glad you did. GL and SH...

It's probably one of the easiest machines to operate. My old Whites DFX was/is a thousand times harder to use.

What do you mean by recover.

Just watched a vid on the recovery time so how slow is the Excal and is this really a problem or can you just swing a bit slower.

Too slow for my style of hunting. It's just not the right machine for you, in my opinion, if all you have are iron infested beaches. There are better choices out there for those types of conditions.

Can you give me your suggestions please.

Yes, if you plan on going into Saltwater. I would not take the CTX 3030 into the surf here on the East Coast. I've seen two drown. :skullflag:

The CTX is out of reach for me I am on the limit at £1200 for the Excal the CTX is £2000 here in the UK.

I would look into a Fisher CZ21 with the 8" coil for the conditions you are hunting in. I would have said the Whites Beach Hunter ID 300 however it only comes with a 12" coil. For me that's too big a coil for an loaded with iron.

On the 2nd beach we hunted we hit metal about every 10-15 feet, would you class that as bad, very bad or what.

I cannot speak for your beaches without hunting them. Think about the last time you hunted it with the pulse. What was the ratio of ferrous to non ferrous targets? That should tell you how bad it is.

Excal. You will love it.

is this spot or spots near by ?
if they are - I tell everyone - take the time and take it all out
once you get the old iron out - all you'll be left with if recent junk and hopefully goodies
I know spots myself and others hit with PIs over the yrs and took everything out - all youll get is recent drops
good and bad
the more old junk you clean out the less there should be the next time and the next etc.-- hopefully
