I have a Sovereign xs2a-pro with a 10" coil (heavy) and was continually frustrated with the coil dropping on me (ie not staying parallel to the ground during hunting). This is due to the poor design of the coil where it attaches to the stick. The plastic screw that fits through there is way too small and if you try and crank down on it to tighten it up it just spins or snaps. This is not a good way to start a detecting trip.
I was at our local detector meeting the other night and noticed one of the club members had a white colored bolt in this area of his detector. I asked him about it and he said the "toilet section" at home depot had plastic bolts. I liked the idea, so I got some larger 1/4" wide nylon bolts. Then drilled out the hole slightly to fit this bolt. Now the coil is nice and tight with just the right amount of play.
Does anyone else have this problem? Try this, but use caution to drill the holes out so they are straight.

I've replaced my bolts on occaision with these white nylon things and they work well for my CZ-20. Never had to expand the hole, either. I never could find matching nylon wing-nuts, though. What are you using? Hex nuts?

It also helps to get the thin rubber washers to use as spacers. (Home Depot, same section) These add a little friction to the coil/stem attachment so they remain in position.

Yes, Home Depot sells a hex nut to match. They are in the slide out drawers in the nuts and bolts section.

I have been discouraged also by the really lousy arm support on the end of the stick on the Sovereign xs-2a Pro. I'm sure many of you have had this piece of c. break in half on you like I have and have had to replace it again. This cuts into hunting time and is just generally a poor design. So....., I came up with a great idea that works like a champ. I have always liked the way the White's Spectrum xlt armpiece was, so I bought one and took a drill to the center hole to enlarge it slightly. It has a velcro band that holds your arm in place and the armpiece is made out of metal.
What a difference this make in stamina on your arm! Give it a try. I also thought about taking one of the lousier casio watches that I found on the beach and attaching it to my stick (metal detector, that is!).
