Found it today. At first I thought it was a flat button. Just used a toothpick. Can’t believe it still has some gilt. How in the world did it end up in south Louisiana. Geaux Tigers!!!

It's not a Military Button only a Govt. one. The time period fits, but of course there are a thousands other scenario's as well.
