image.webpFound this at a skirmish site . Here is a pic next to a standard Union minie ball. Weight is 1.19 oz and diameter is .545. What throws me off is the bottom. If you look closely , bottom is folded in. Does anybody have an idea why?image.webp

Probably folded like that just due to the way it hit. I have lots of fired bullets I look at and wonder how in the world it ended up the way it did.

That looks a lot like an Enfield I recovered before

Great find. I have found only one Enfield and its other end is smashed.

I really just don't know my ammo. One would think I'd know more after the ton and a half of lead I've dug over the years. :dontknow:

But, I wonder how certain bullets get where they wound up. Like this past trip one of my finds was a metal jacketed bullet. Found, in suburbia at a TOT-LOT! No clue what type of ammo it is, but what are they teaching at today's schools!?!?

Just left of the red button. Copper/brass jacketed?

whats odd to me is that if this was a fired bullet why isn't the nose deformed in some way. Maybe the pic doesn't do justice but the rear of the bullet looks like is was neatly crimped in on purpose. Dunno.

I think mine is on here somewhere I posted some years back. Let me look. I think I remember the crimp at the end. That is a fairly simple bullet to mold out in the field so it may have been hand cast with a mold in the field
