Most likely from either a worlds fair or exposition from somewhere, possibly columbian. Nice find. jgas

1892-93 Exposition, perhaps? Nice!

Looks to be part of a spoon from the "Word's Fair" as shown on the similar/same spoon that I just so happen to have sitting in front of me.

I see 1492 and Worlds Fair written on mine and on the back "U.S. Sterling." The odd thing is my silver kit doesn't indicate it's sterling, so I'm a bit perplexed. Does yours test silver? It looks silver-ish... Mine has a nice "ting" to it when dropped.

Oops, I forgot to resize, let me know if you want me to...

Re: Christopher Columbus spoon handle top?? Not sure how old

Hello, :hello:

I'm trying to learn this stuff myself so I'll give it a shot.... :icon_thumleft: :icon_scratch: I'm going to say both spoons are plated and not real old. More like modern commemorative plated spoons. ??? Some of these commemorative spoons are sterling but most are plated with gold or silver. One thing that gives this away on the broken spoon is the rust at the end where it was broken. :sign13: If it's marked Sterling then it should be that, but dose not mean it is. :dontknow: If your test says its not sterling then it likely is not. :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :D ;D

U. S. Sterling is the name of a company that may have manufactured the non-sterling spoon.

Definately a likeness, but strange in that P II's reign was between 1556 and 1592.

Not sure but could be a souvenir spoon that represents Spain at the Chicago World's Fair 1893 in her colon shows the boat and King Philip II (by the neck typical curly fringe of the 16th century).

Re: Christopher Columbus spoon handle top?? Not sure how old

Some of these souvenir spoons have bust of Ferninand (?) and some of Queen Isabella because they sponsored the voyage. But all of the spoons have St. Maria on them.

Some info on it from http://spoonplanet.com/colum6.html

'The spoon purports to be a sterling silver Chicago Columbian World Fair spoon. It was probably made at the time of the Chicago world fair and may have been produced for some time after the fair ended.

It is marked "U.S. Sterling". It is NOT sterling silver, it is silver plated. There is no company called "U.S. Sterling". The spoon is believed to have been made by the Oneida Silversmiths.'
