Cant figure this one out. Marked STER on back as seen in photo, it does not appear to have
ever been attached to anything and I dont think it would have ever been glued down on anything with the ster mark on the back. Hope someone knows what it is. My luck, it is steel and a piece to a game board.

Looks like it was part of a ring possibly held in with prongs.

It does look like there was something towards the top of the back side. Kinda rusty lookin.

Nice piece of 925/1000 pure silver I'd say. Does look like it was something that fell off a ring I'm also thinking. As worn as the relieve of that piece is my guess would be the prongs that held it to the ring were worn also to the point they could no longer hold that part on anymore. Not sure why it would have the evidence of rust on it, maybe it sat in the soil close to a piece of iron?...nice find!

Yeah, Im starting to see what you guys are thinking with the ring prong thing. It does have some indentation like it was held on with prongs. Thanks everyone. I dont know why it has rust on the back, I have not tried cleaning the rust off yet. should come off when I try.

Looks like a silver "Roman soldier"-style cameo. I found a few examples of cameos using sterling vs. stone cabochons from the 1950s:
Sterling cabochon set in gold:

I'm guessing the setting on yours was something like this given the wear pattern on the back:

The specific soldier looks a bit like this one:

Neat find!
