First post please bear with me...
I am in North central Texas and new to the hobbie, at this time I don't own a detector. Having said that I am considering either a Cibola or a Silver Umax, due to a special situation I can get either for the same money. I know some of the differences, but I would appreciate some suggestions as to which machine those of you with experince would reccomend I start with. Since I am knew I will hunt parks fairgrounds or where ever I can for what ever I can find, additionaly I have access to several schools that were closed in the 20's. Thanks

don't know a thng about them, perhaps ask someone on chat too. I just wanted to welcome you to the site

Hey Hub,

IF you can get one or the other for the same price I would get the Cibola, It gives you a few more options. Personally I would think that you wouldn't have to upgrade any time soon if you went with the C.

You could probably get better advice from JOE(USA) or Snadman but that's my .02cents

They are both great machines, but if you can get either for the same price go for the Cibola. The Cibola is newer technology and uses the "hot" coils.

I agree with the above posts. I would with the Cibola if they are the same price.

Can you let us in on the "special situation" ?

if you can let us in I'll take one cibola :icon_jokercolor:

I have a Tejon that I bought about two years ago and I really like it. My wife has been reading the posts on the Louisiana Bayou hunt coming up in April that we are going to attend and she is getting excited about it so we went and bought her a Cibola. We where looking at the silver but while talking to the dealer I found the coils on the Cibola and the Tejon where interchangeable. She found a hand full of coins the first outing a school play ground. That was just this last Saturday. Now she wants to go all the time. I think I've crated a monster. The depth reading is close to the Tejon. We are happy with it.

I picked up the Cibola yesterday haven't had time to get out with it yet it came from a dealer that had used it as a demo machine. Still got full warranty and before I started adding accessories the price was in line with a silver. Thanks for all the feedback now if I can just find time to get out we'll see what I can find.

I am new to this. I just got my new, and first detector last month. i was going to get the umax but people here talked me into the cibola. I am grateful for that. I'm still new to the controls. with a air test ,and I set the best setting on the machine,(according to the Manuel).... I got a air test with 3 coins over 2 feet i couldn't be leave it and my daughter used a cloth measuring tape to be leave it
