✅ SOLVED Civil war battlefield finds

Found these 2 items at site of cavalry battle in western Md.
Small item with letters looks like OUVRN possible letters before and after.
Can anyone make out word and id what this is?
Also what would this small handle go to its copper I believe?

The curved piece is the handle off a drawer pull.

The other item might read SOUVENIR

It might help if you wet the small badge like item then take a picture. Sometimes it brings out the letters. Just take a little water on your fingertip and run it over the letters. Just a suggestion.

Letters do not look right for souvenir. My thought too till I saw your letters listed and looked closely. Wet it so we can see better. Souvenir makes sense but need to see letters better. And if souvenir, then of what??

Seems there’s lots of Gar medals that say Souvenir.

The Union Cavalry troops where I detected today were Custers troops and I just found this Custer Medal that looks just like the part I found today.
