Any ideas as to what this is? I found it in an area where Civil War relics have been found, it was bent over some and I straightened it out. Thanks for your thoughts on what it might be. By the way, it's 3 1/4" long and 2 1/4" wide.

Half of a victorian sash buckle is one of the usual suspects... I think it might have originally been bent?
It looks like there may be some words on the tarnished part between the two holes, maybe?
