Got out to a couple different spots today. The first was where an old stage stop was that was started back in 1842. The only good find there was this buckle, I'm not sure if its that old but the area is. My second spot was a 40 acre bean stubble field that was a towns fairgrounds and horse track, Dug a small gold plated bead?, a crusty wheaty and a tag with the number 28 stamped on it. Can anybody id the buckle for me?

two parter -- nice -- cw to post cw era

Either a Civil War era tongue that was lost by a soldier who then went to serve out west in the Indian Wars OR its a post war

piece that was made during the Indian Wars and lost by a soldier.......either way its a really nice find......be nice if

you could go back to where you found it and dig the wreath that goes with it....

Does it look like someone repaired the loop opposite the tongue?
Newt

No, there looks like it was bent a little at that spot and its kinda corroded, but dont look repaired.

Awesome find, I love the eagles! Niffler

I dont know if you are interested :dontknow: But these are a couple different varieties....all pre 1860

Thank you for responding! :thumbsup:After I looked at yours again I realized its size, and was right,it is the mini.Funny thing,I personally know of two,one my buddy dug,and the other another buddy bought for $10 on E-Bay.These buckles do not have the collector base.We beleive your type was probably a childs,as we have seen many dagureotypes of children wearing T&W buckles.

The above shown are just a FEW of the different varieties...there is more!!!

Kuger's right on with the buckles being precivil war. If anyone knows about that type of buckle he does.

Good deal, its all kinda strange to me to dig this kinda stuff up here in boring Iowa, lol

pre civil war made most likely agreed -- however they were used heavily in the war and post civil war as well. --- folks back then did not just throw useful items away --they used em till they wore out or broke beyond their ability to fix em in most cases.
