🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Civil war buckle tongue

Found this belt tongue in an area (Hampton,VA) that goes back to Colonial days so it's hard to gauge what era these relics come from. This belt tongue comes close to those in pre-civil war but I can't seem to match it up. Navy buttons and belts seem to be hard to nail down.

I can’t get over how small in diameter the tongue is compared to the belt width.

DiggerDug is correct. That buckle-tongue is from a 1920s/30s swimsuit Men's swimsuits often still had a top t-shirt-like top in those days, with the waist of the suit held up by a belt with 2-piece buckle. Somebody posted a photo of one here years ago, but I can no longer find that photo I'm sure about the identification, though.
