Found this today about four steps from my front door! South Carolina Civil War era button. Schuyler 23 cm Can't quite pinpoint exactly what it is though? It seems to have barely noticeable ridges all across the front that are mostly worn away. Back reads Schuyler H & G N York. There is no space between the name and place of manufacture. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming that you know that this is a KILLER great find, right?!?

It is a South Carolina State Militia button. The backmark saying "Schuyler H&G N-York, written in RAISED lettering, means it was manufactured sometime between the Schuyler, Hartley & Graham firm's founding in 1854 and December 1860, when South Carolina seceded from the Federal Union.

Nice button. I told you that ID would be no problem on TNet. Keep up the good work!
