I found a CW camp last year and have been hunting it ever since. One thing that has puzzled me is why I have been finding later military stuff there. Its a bean and corn field and there's no reason why anyone else would have camped in this place after the Civil War. Well I found the answer today while researching some 19th century letters. The field was once a pasture and used every year for a 4th of July celebration and other gatherings. I verified that with another source. That explains the Barber and Seated coins with later dates and also the pre CW Ordnance button, Indian War button and WWI Lt's butter bar. The ordnance button could have been lost in the CW but it doesnt fit with all the other stuff. The only buttons Ive found have been general service eagle buttons. Most of the time questions like this go unanswered and we can only guess. Well this time someone from the 1850s told me in a letter :)
