Not sure if this is the right forum for the item. But it is pretty cool anyway!
The City of Atlanta Police Department says construction crews in the area of Marietta street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive unearthed what appears to be a Civil War-era cannon ball.

The cannon ball was taken to a bomb range to be rendered safe.

Just one more battle site / skirmish line / camp site removed forever in the name of progress.

That's cool,thanks for sharing.

You folks near Atlanta need to sweep that job site before it's all covered in concrete and asphalt. Oh yeah don't forget to post what ya find.

What would have happened if a metal detector had found that cannon ball? Would it have exploded or not? Is there any truth that live ammo can be set off by a metal detector?

Absolutely not. Who ever told you that is either messing with you, or just plain dumb.

There's a lot of sites paved over in Atlanta, but every now and then you can get into them when there's construction. I found a few good relics when I lived there
