✅ SOLVED Civil War Item?

The round green brass item was found about 4 feet from the 3 ringer last weekend.
Hoping someone out there has seen something similar in their digs.
I was thinking maybe part of a form / mold?

looks like part of an old bullet mold. Maybe a .36 or .31 just a guess.

was it found at the same depth as the three ringer?
sometimes determining the age of something can help narrow down what it might be.......

Cool i got a couple of reply`s.

I have found what i think is a .44 round ball from the same location plus
a williams cleaner at 2 inches and another 3 ringer at 6 inches.
This 3 ringer was laying on top of the ground due to a backhoe moving the dirt around and the round brass item in question was at 6 inches.

The green round-ish brass disc appears to be part of a gate-valve. Similar ones have been found and discussed in this forum recently. Speaking as a civil war relic digger and dealer for nearly 40 years, I'm sorry to have to tell you, I'm quite certain it is not from a bulletmold.

Antlerman, yes the object at the top is a special type of rivet, used for holding two thick pieces of leather together. Such "thick-disc" rivets were used on civil war sword-belts, but also on other leather items. Despite their use on other items, many civil war relic diggers call them a sword-belt rivet. They're a common find in yankee cavalry campsites.

Yes, the round part is half of a gate valve "gate".

The gate valve was developed for steam in the early 1800`s.

I have found some old short railroad spike`s and evidence of a track bed there so maybe it was off of a steam engine?

Thanks for the info on the rivet Antlerman. maybe there`s a union plate up there waiting on me to free it.
