Civil War Marine buttons still attched to cloth

here's the pics the buttons have been dated from the backmarks 3 diff. sources have matched them up with 1861-1865 "waterbury button co." I'm getting a display made for this find. hh and luck to you all. J.D.

bulltab you may be right ., I got an 1876 map it says "soldiers cemetary" on it. They are buliding 4 warehouses there and we found the stuff in bull dozed piles I started asking around about it and was told to "mind my own buiseness" about the cemetary. The local historic society seems disinterested in it also. J.D.

Be careful, or you may find yourself out of a hunting spot.
It seems odd to me that no one would care about preserving a civil war graveyard. If the local Paper or tv stations knew of this, I'm sure it would be a different story.

I wonder what the laws are about developing cemetarys? I know that graves are often moved, but is it law? You have to consider that many, many pieces of land contain graves (known or unknown) and there would be no way to protect them all. It is sad however, especially since the Historical society does not care- and that it is a Civil war graveyard.

The "mind your own buisness" comment raises a flag- you may want to look into that...

I'd really get someone to look into this especially because of the Rareness of ANYTHING THAT IS USMC FROM THAT PERIOD!!!

Maybe I worry too much about things like this, but you may want to be careful about any ground that may contain human remains---diseases like TB that were more prevalent at the time that can remain dormant for years.
