Hey guys,
Hit the dirt today near on an old confederate civil war battery and dug a variety of rare bullets...and a out of place union GS Eagle in decent shape given the salt water it was sitting in for the last 150 years. Among the bullet finds was a perfect .58 caliber Gardner with mold line still visible and a stamped 2 on the bottom, a British import .57 caliber Enfield with 57 on the bottom, and a rare Hexagonal Whitworth 45 cal! "The Whitworth Rifle Company sold the rifle to the Confederacy. The Confederate soldiers that used these rifles were referred to as Whitworth Sharpshooters. They accompanied regular infantrymen, and were usually used to eliminate Union artillery gun crews." I also turned up what I believe to be a lead stamp used for wax seals, a harmonica reed, and a water cap to an artillery fuse. Thanks for looking
