Hey guys,
Earlier this week I headed out to a local park that has given up several Civil War relics (pocket knife, buttons, etc.) Sure enough, I managed to dig this out at around 7-8 inches deep. After cleaning it up as best I could, I still have no idea what it could be. It does have some writing on one side, but it's completely illegible. Any ideas as to what it is?

I've seen it before, but the only thing coming to this old mind is railroad. Something to do with a railroad?

There is a railroad running about 200 feet from where I found it so it's definitely a possibility. Thanks for the info!

Looks like a piece of a broken valve wheel / handle.

Track clip, I can't remember exactly what they're supposed to do, but if you walk the tracks you'll see them clipped to the bottom of the rail
