Hello all,

Got out today for a bit.. hunting part of the battlefield in Unison Virginia. The site has been hunted for years, so finding anything is good.. the ring is a typical brass ring of the period but a little thicker then most I have found. The square button came from a site in town, it is much newer but interesting..

MB

Turns out the button is actually somethig pretty cool.. related to the Clan na Gual

here is an excerpt form Wikipedia

"The Clan na Gael (sic; the correct modern Irish spelling would be Clann na nGael "family of the Gaels") was an Irish republican organization in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, successor to the Fenian Brotherhood and a sister organization to the Irish Republican Brotherhood."

Thanks! Man, I "earned" these.. found a yellow jacket nest not long after I got there.. The button has a seam on the backand looks "modern".. I'll post a picture of the back.. I'm thinking modern jacket button..

No it is plain.. I guess it was just plain brass or maybe gilt?? Found it right in the same spot as everything else.. so I am counting it as period..

Clann na Gael is an older Irish Rebel group I think from the second half of the 19th century . Don't quote me on this but it may be a lead.

Outstanding!! Thanks and great eye!! Here is an excerpt form Wikipedia.. post Fenian Brotherhood that is just too cool!!
